Cricket World Cup
Cricket world cup is one of the oldest sports in the world. It has been played since 1789, when William Clarke organized his team at Lord’s cricket ground in London. The first international match was played between England and Ireland in 1844, and today there are two teams representing each country: Australia and New Zealand have been playing international matches since 1907, while India became an independent nation in 1947.
West Indies won the tournament
In 1975, the Cricket World Cup was held in England for the first time. West Indies won the tournament and Australia finished as runners-up. India also finished third after playing Pakistan in a thrilling semi-final match which eventually went down to a tiebreaker with both teams scoring exactly 100 runs each. New Zealand finished fifth and England sixth but both teams had some great moments during their campaigns: Ian Botham’s superlative bowling figures against Pakistan; Bob Willis taking three wickets on his debut at Lord’s against Australia; Viv Richards scoring half centuries against all comers (including 10 overs) while batting at number six position; Imran Khan hitting consecutive fours off Tim Lambie during one over in game one of final clash between Sri Lanka & Pakistan (Pakistan won); Peter Willey smashing 29 runs off 11 balls including two fours & sixes in same over by Ricky Ponting (this was only match where he took more than one wicket off same delivery).
Australia won the tournament
The 1979 World Cup was held in England and Australia won the tournament. The West Indies came second with England finishing third. India and Pakistan were eliminated in their semi finals respectively.
the tournament was won by India
The 1983 World Cup was held in England, with India winning their first title. This was also the first time that a match was played at night, and one of two times that a woman umpire has been used in an international men’s cricket match (the other being the Women’s World Cup Final).
Australia won the 1987 World Cup
The 1987 World Cup was held in India and Pakistan, with Australia winning the final against England by seven runs. This was the first time that a team other than Australia or West Indies won this tournament.
In addition to its historical significance, it was also one of the most competitive World Cups ever played; five matches went into extra time!
1992 Cricket World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand
1992 Cricket World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand, with the final being played at Eden Park in Auckland. The hosts defeated Pakistan by six wickets to win their second World Cup title. This tournament was also the first to be held outside England since 1930.
The tournament was hosted by India
- Australia won the World Cup
- England was the runner-up
- South Africa was the third placed team.
The tournament was hosted by India and it was the first time that the World Cup was held in more than one country
The 1999 Cricket World Cup was the 8th Cricket World Cup.
The 1999 Cricket World Cup was the 8th edition of the cricket tournament, also known as the “Cricket World Cup”. It was held in England and Wales, the first time it had been held outside Australia and New Zealand. Hosts England won their second consecutive title by defeating Australia in the final at Lord’s.
2003
In 2003, the Cricket World Cup was held in South Africa. The final was played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and won by Australia over England by eight wickets. It was their first win since 1972 and they went on to win the tournament for a second time with a 3-0 sweep of Pakistan in their next two matches.
The Cricinfo website has an excellent article about how this event changed cricket’s popularity around the world: “The impact of that huge crowd, estimated at 200 million people watching live coverage on TV, cannot be overestimated.”
The 2007 World Cup was won by India
The 2007 Cricket World Cup was won by India, who beat Pakistan in the final. India also came second in their group and then defeated Sri Lanka in the semi-final before beating Australia in the quarter-final. They went on to face Bangladesh in a one-off match before meeting Zimbabwe, who they beat comfortably at home and advanced to the Super Six stage of Group A. In terms of performance, this tournament was an absolute success for Team India as they beat New Zealand (who were ranked number one at that time) to reach what would become their best ever position in Test cricket – eighth place!
In addition to being one of few teams that managed a top ten finish at ICC events over several years following its arrival on world stage thanks largely because it had been able to adapt quickly enough compared with other countries such as Australia who struggled initially before moving up quickly once they started playing better cricket than ever before.”
2011 Australia won the world cup.
In 2011, Australia won their first Cricket World Cup. They beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in a game played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). India finished third after losing to New Zealand twice in group matches and then losing to Pakistan in the semifinals. South Africa was fourth and England fifth, but both were eliminated from contention after being knocked out of Group A by Australia and New Zealand respectively.
2015
The 2015 World Cup was the first to be played in Australia, and it was won by Australia. The first World Cup was played in 1975, so this year’s edition of the tournament is only 13 years old. While many countries have won or hosted previous versions of this event, none have done so as recently as India did when they hosted a record-breaking event in 2011.
Pakistan won their first World Cup back in 1992 but lost out on that title last month after going down against India in another thrilling final match-up between rivals Pakistan versus India at Eden Gardens Stadium (also known as Kolkata) located just outside of Kolkata city center where both teams hail from; however because other teams have also claimed victory through their efforts over time such as Sri Lanka winning twice before now during different eras within cricket history since some other nations were around prior too them during those times like England who took home gold medals twice before then too!
The 1975 World Cup was won by the West Indies.
The West Indies were the first team to win the World Cup twice, in 1975 and 1979. They defeated Australia in the final by seven wickets at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London. This was also their last chance at winning a third World Cup title; they did not qualify for another tournament until 1983 and then lost all three matches within it (including two no-results).
The 1975 edition of this tournament was played across England and Wales as part of a four-year cycle that included two tournaments per year between 1972-73 and 1977-78 before returning back down south where we now find ourselves again!
